Amish Sugar Cookies

I think I need to find a few more Amish style recipes – the last two I’ve tried have been fabulous! Awhile back, I was looking for a sugar cookie recipe since Jesse wasn’t a fan of the one I had. As I was looking, I came across this recipe over at Taste of Home and I noticed it used powdered sugar instead of the run of the mill coarse sugar. Continue reading

Cutout Sugar Cookies

I love sugar cookies and the monkey loves to make them for Santa Claus. I’ve tried a few recipes before and I haven’t really been happy with the way they’ve turned out. Recently, I found a sugar cookie (non-cutout) recipe that used powdered sugar instead of cane sugar and I liked it. So I went looking for a cutout recipe that used the powdered rather than the regular and I have to say – love it. Chocolate Chip Brownie Cookies

I haven’t tried these yet, but I had to add these to OSC when I found them. These are totally thanks to Bakerella and I can’t believe I never even thought of trying something like this. I love chocolate chip cookies and brownies, so why not put them together? I’ll add more commentary once I actually try them (which will probably be this weekend – hell yeah!). I mean, c’mon, brownies within a chocolate chip cookies…why am I still here, I could totally make these tomorrow. Continue reading

White Chocolate Chip Cookies

These are actually not that bad. They still taste like chocolate chip cookies, but they have white chocolate instead of semi-sweet. I did use wheat flour instead of white for a little difference. You really can’t tell it’s wheat flour, but you can tell there is something off about the cookie. It’s not a bad thing, but it does make it stand out a little more than just having the white chocolate. Continue reading

White Chocolate No Bake Cookies

I don’t know why I haven’t thought of this before, but instead of finding a white chocolate no bake recipe, I’m just revamping this one. Instead of adding the cocoa, I’m throwing in a couple of ounces of white chocolate instead. With the first batch, I only threw in 4oz and they didn’t come out as white chocolaty as I would have liked. They were more peanut butter flavored than anything. Continue reading

Rum Balls

I love this recipe of my grandmother’s. It’s the one holiday treat the I (and the rest of my family) look forward to every year Since we’re not fans of keeping alcohol in the house, I did attempt to make these with rum extract, but I’ll be honest, it doesn’t come as good. For someone who grew up with these, I could tell the difference in the rum. Ingredients: 4 cups crushed vanilla wafer cookies (a 12oz box) Continue reading

Coconut Macaroons

Another recipe from my grandma Leach. Mmm… Ingredients: 3 egg whites – stiffly beaten 1 cup sugar 1 tbsp corn starch or 2 tbsp flour 1/4 tsp salt 2 cups coconuts 1/2 tsp almond extract Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In the top of a double broiler, combine egg whites, sugar and cornstarch (flour). Cook over boiling water, stirring constantly, 20 minutes. Remove from heat, add salt, coconut and almond extract.
